| Lakshmi Shankar the lead vocalist is one of the premier vocalists of India. A highly acclaimed singer of classical and light classical music, Lakshmi Shankar belongs to the Patiala School of Hindustani Music and is the voice of Sir Richard Attenboro's film GANDHI. She has toured the world and has worked with the greats such as Uday Shankar, Ravi Shankar, and George Harrison. She has been the lead vocalist for Viji Prakash's musicals Purandaradasa, Meera and Shyama which toured the US and Canada. She has several CD;s and albums to her credit. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Palai Ramachandran is amongst the senior carnatic musicians of India. Palai Ramachandran himself is the senior disciple of the legendary Sangeeta Kalanidhi Semanagudi Srinivasa Iyer. Palai Ramachandran has been the voice alongside Semmangudi for over four decades. Palai Ramachandran has been bestowed with many honors and awards, the latest being from the Madras Music Academy in the 2001 music series for best raga and raga alapana in the category of senior musicians. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Debur Srivathsa, the musician who has set most of the music for today's production, is a very popular vocalist for dance. He has sung for the Sangeet Natak Academy and the ICCR, the leading cultural bodies in India. Srivathsa has composed the lyrics and dance music for several of Shakti Productions. He sang along side Lakshmi Shankar in the dance ballet Shyama. Srivathsa has been with Shakti since 1995. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Venkatesan Vedakrishnaram is a disciple of his late father, Sri Venkatesan and uncle Bhaktavatsalam. Veda is recognized as a brilliant and innovative percussionist. Veda has accompanied several celebrated dancers of India. Veda has performed with Pandit Ravi Shankar at the Carnegie hall in 1997 and with the Tabla maestro Swapan Chaudhuri. He has been a part of Shakti productions since 1992. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Mahesh Swamy is based in Bangalore and is a multi faceted artist. He plays the flute, moorsing (Jewish harp), Veena and keyboard. He is a disciple of Srinivasa Murthy. He has toured South Africa and Europe and has been an artist for Shakti since 1998. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Krishna Kutty is a very popular violinist in Southern California, and has played for most leading dance artists. He has been part of Shakti productions since 1995. He is also a biochemist by profession and also teaches violin. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Raja Sivamani has been a student of the Veena for the past twelve years and has had his training from Srikant Chari and Vijaya Prabhakar. He has been giving Veena recitals for the past five years. He is presently pursuing a Ph.D. at University of California at Berkeley as a bio-engineer. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
